Due to her careful training in her Religious studies by her parents and her eldest sister Amelia, Gianna was fortunate to be allowed to make her First Communion at the age of 5 and a half. On April 4, 1948 she received her first Communion at the parish of Santa Grata in Bergamo. Two years later she was confirmed at the Cathedral

From then on, Gianna went to Mass and received Communion daily whatever the state of the weather or her studies. She was a daily communicant her whole life.

“Will you also go away? Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6,53.67).
